Therefore justice is far from us,
    and righteousness does not overtake us;
(A)we hope for light, and behold, darkness,
    and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.
10 (B)We grope for the wall like the blind;
    we grope like those who have no eyes;
we stumble at noon as in the twilight,
    (C)among those in full vigor we are like dead men.
11 We all growl like bears;
    (D)we moan and moan like doves;
(E)we hope for justice, but there is none;
    for salvation, but it is far from us.
12 For our transgressions are multiplied before you,
    and our sins testify against us;
for our transgressions are with us,
    and we know our iniquities:
13 transgressing, and denying the Lord,
    and turning back from following our God,
(F)speaking oppression and revolt,
    conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words.

Judgment and Redemption

14 (G)Justice is turned back,
    and righteousness stands far away;
for truth has stumbled in the public squares,
    and uprightness cannot enter.
15 Truth is lacking,
    and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.

The Lord saw it, and it displeased him[a]
    that there was no justice.
16 (H)He saw that there was no man,
    and wondered that there was no one to intercede;
then his own arm brought him salvation,
    and his righteousness upheld him.
17 (I)He put on righteousness as a breastplate,
    and a helmet of salvation on his head;
he put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
    and wrapped himself in (J)zeal as a cloak.
18 (K)According to their deeds, so will he repay,
    wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies;
    (L)to the coastlands he will render repayment.
19 (M)So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west,
    and his glory from the rising of the sun;
(N)for he will come like a rushing stream,[b]
    which the wind of the Lord drives.

20 (O)“And (P)a Redeemer will come to Zion,
    to those in Jacob who turn from transgression,” declares the Lord.

How Long, O Lord?

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

13 (A)How long, O Lord? Will you (B)forget me forever?
    How long will you (C)hide your face from me?
How long must I take (D)counsel in my soul
    and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

(E)Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
    (F)light up my eyes, lest (G)I sleep the sleep of death,
(H)lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
    lest my foes rejoice because I am (I)shaken.

But I have (J)trusted in your steadfast love;
    my heart shall (K)rejoice in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
    because he has dealt bountifully with me.

Warning Against Apostasy

11 About this we have much to say, and it is (A)hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again (B)the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need (C)milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is (D)a child. 14 But solid food is for (E)the mature, for those who have their powers (F)of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

Therefore (G)let us leave (H)the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance (I)from dead works and of faith toward God, and of (J)instruction about washings,[a] (K)the laying on of hands, (L)the resurrection of the dead, and (M)eternal judgment. And this we will do (N)if God permits. For it is impossible, in the case of those (O)who have once been enlightened, who have tasted (P)the heavenly gift, and (Q)have shared in the Holy Spirit, and (R)have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and (S)then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since (T)they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. For (U)land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But (V)if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, (W)and its end is to be burned.

Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation. 10 For (X)God is not unjust so as to overlook (Y)your work and the love that you have shown for his name in (Z)serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance (AA)of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but (AB)imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

46 (A)And they came to Jericho. And (B)as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, (C)a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was (D)Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many (E)rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, (F)“Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his (G)cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, (H)“What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, (I)“Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; (J)your faith has (K)made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
